Day 59... Amazing that I completed this challenge. My clothing is way more personal than I thought it would be. I will admit that, looking back on the past 59 days, I did have some blunders. The core of this challenge was to be creative with my outfit choices by wearing a new combination each day without repeat or adding to my freshly cleaned out closet. Learning first how to dress my body by having a wardrobe overhaul by Minh Le, then taking those tools and really using them has shown me a new side of myself. A classier, more polished version of myself. In high school I was always complimented for my "unique" style which was mainly made up of old-lady thrift store clothes. Matching was boring and the more colors I could thrown in one outfit, the better. I have come a long way from there! With my new tools, and some new favorite outfits, my style has transformed from "unique" to beautiful, fun, polished and maybe even a bit sexy ;)
Inspired by my friend Loreal's Italian flair, I layered dark pieces with a scarf.
Going to the 2011 Wiener Festival had to wear jeans and a T, good thing I have my doxie pin my friend Cate gave me!
I don't know what I was thinking. Trying to wear this skirt has always been hard for me.
Last day! Love having light, short sleeve cardis to put over tanks for a more layered spring look.
Now that my 59 day challenge has ended I'm working on coming up with some ideas for a new challenge, preferably a shorter one so I don't lose interest. I am off to the airport in 3 hours to go to San Padro, Belize for vacation. I'll start my blog back up with a nod to vacation style. Thanks for reading!
Here is my first outfit. The skirt is actually a dress that I bought for my Rehearsal Dinner. I don't much like the way the waist looks so I haven't warn it a second time since that night over 2 years ago. Making dresses into skirts is one of my new passions. You will see this happen a lot. The jacket is one of my favorites that my Mom bought me for Christmas. The side ruffle makes it extra flattering and the mustard color is the only yellow I seem to be able to pull off. Paired with my black stripped tights and slouchy black boots and I'm good to go!
Today's to do list:
-Work
-Go to lunch with Jacqueline Midkiff and help plan the upcoming wedding photo shoot she is styling with my husband, Chris Stetson
-Company dinner meeting
-Shopping with my husband
Living in Southern California, it is easy to become a mass consumer, particularly in the image arena. Like most 26 year old career gals, my budget it tight. Though my husband loves for me to pamper myself, I need to learn how to make the most of my muchness [things I already own]. I met Minh Le @ The Style Lounge in Carlsbad through my sister-in-law. Minh is amazing with hair, and the best dresser I know. When I found out she does Wardrobe Overhauls, I jumped at the chance, though I didn't know what that meant. After three weeks of purging my closet, having a body assessment done and doing my best to be a good student, I've graduated. Now I face the real world with the temptation to buy and summoning the willpower to not just be content with what I have but be excited about the years, tears, and monies I've put into my wardrobe.
My first project is 59 Days of Style. The goals are simple:
1. Don't buy any clothing or shoes
2. Don't wear the same outfit twice
That means one item of clothing needs to have never been worn with the collection of the others. The only exceptions are if I find the items on my current shopping list. I may buy any of the following items once:
1. Gladiator sandals
2. Opaque black leggings
3. Tom's sneakers
4. A romper, if Jesus provides a nice fitting one
My promise to you is that I will post a photo of every outfit I wear for 59 days.
